Available Treatments for Psoriasis
Current treatments are aimed at suppression of the the abnormalities induced by the persistence of the wound healing response, i.e. epidermal proliferation (scaling), blood vessel proliferation (excessive redness), fibroblast proliferation (scarring) and T cell proliferation, with associated increased cytokine production (including a cytokine called tumor necrosis factor-α or TNFα). These therapies are individually summarized, select them by clicking on the sub-menu to the left.

Conclusion
To achieve best results, it is essential to identify the precipitating and aggravating factors. Infections should be treated with oral antibiotics. Patients should avoid contact with the allergens they are allergic to. Re-exposure to these precipitating factors may retard resolution of the disease, or produce worsening disease. Patients must work with their doctors at all times with regard to the diagnosis and treatment of their skin condition. In addition, patients must be aware of which psoriasis treatments are established and FDA approved and which are not. Very often, treatment with an established drug, together with a complementary approach, such as the avoidance of precipitating factors, treatment of infections, and use of preparations aimed at the inflammation or growing the skin barrier back, may be very effective.
